Background
Indonesia ranks among the lowest globally in youth literacy, with 75% of 15-year-olds scoring at basic proficiency levels in reading. This literacy crisis threatens the nation's human capital development. Reading for the Future (RFF) aims to reverse this trend by nurturing a love for reading among elementary school children nationwide.

 

Mission
To cultivate a culture of reading in Indonesia through engaging stories, targeted programs, and community involvement, helping children grow into informed, thoughtful citizens.

 

Why It Matters
RFF is more than a campaign—it’s a national movement to transform Indonesia’s future through the power of reading. By reaching children early, we build a foundation for lifelong learning, civic responsibility, and national growth.​

Core Objectives

  • Inspire Reading: Spark curiosity and enjoyment in reading through bilingual books and media.

  • Boost Literacy: Improve comprehension and writing in Indonesian and English.

  • Develop Character: Use stories to teach empathy, moral values, and critical thinking.

 

Key Initiatives

  • Luki & Fani Mystery Series: Bilingual, illustrated adventure books that combine education and entertainment.

  • Reading Materials: Books, videos, and activity kits focused on science, history, and values.

  • Workshops & Reading Camps: Local events to engage students and educators.

  • Digital Platform: An online hub for books, resources, and character-building content.

 

Implementation Plan
RFF will scale up over four years:

 

  • Year 1 (2025–2026): Reach 0.5M students in 5 provinces.

  • Year 2–4: Expand to 12M students nationwide, with branches in nearly every city/regency.​

  • 500,000 books distributed

  • RFF branches active in 5 regions

  • Baseline literacy data collected

  • National and local partnerships formed

 

Funding & Sustainability
Funded through sales of Luki & Fani books and private and corporate donors. Every purchase helps subsidize book access for the 24 million Indonesian elementary students.  â€‹

All proceeds from the sale of the Luki & Fani series, after covering marketing and production costs, will go directly to support RFF’s activities and operations.
